ON-CALL NURSE


The Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center is seeking an on-call Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to perform medical duties within the facility.


Duties include conducting medical assessments for new intakes, medication management and administration, assisting with and maintaining resident medical records, and conducting supply and equipment inventories.  This position is supervised by the full-time RN.


Applicant must be currently licensed as an RN or LPN in Virginia and have experience working with youth, preferably within a residential or correctional facility.   Applicant must have an acceptable background investigation, no founded Child Protective Service complaints, and must possess a valid CPR/First Aid Certification as well as a valid Virginia Driver’s License.


Applicant must commit to working at least one shift per week and then as needed to provide coverage for the full-time nurse.  This will include some weekend and evening shifts.  Applicant must also attend and/or complete all mandatory training requirements of Merrimac Center.  Pay to commensurate with experience and qualifications, from $29/hour. There is potential for transfer to the Full-Time Nurse position in the future if interested.

FINANCIAL MANAGER


The Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center is seeking a financial manager who is responsible for the comprehensive management of governmental functions including the financial, administrative, and operational support of the juvenile detention center employing approximately 70 staff. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position provides leadership in budgeting, budget projections, accounting, payroll, and purchasing.


The incumbent ensures fiscal integrity, compliance with local, state, and federal requirements, and efficient management of resources. As a key member of the management team, the Financial Manager contributes to strategic planning and the achievement of the Center’s operational and financial goals. This role also participates in audit preparation and follow-up, maintains accurate financial records, and provides essential support for human resources functions, including Worker’s Compensation, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) administration, etc.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, accounting, finance, or related field required; emphasis in accounting or financial management preferred. MBA, MPA, or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of six years of progressively responsible professional experience including 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.


Acceptable background investigation, physical, and drug screen required. Salary range is $70,031 to $94,541 based on education and experience. Merrimac Center offers a competitive benefits package including participation in the Virginia Retirement System. The position is open until filled.

FULL-TIME DIRECT-CARE YOUTH DETENTION SPECIALIST


The Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center is seeking a full-time, Direct-Care Detention Specialist to join our team of professionals. Our Detention Specialists are the front-line staff working with youth in the Center. Bona Fide Occupational Qualification: The U.S. Department of Justice final rule of national standards to prevent, detect, and respond to prison rape under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of 2003 requires gender-specific supervision of juvenile detainees in specific circumstances.


WHAT YOU WILL DO:

· Supervise the security and welfare of youth during their daily activities that include: school, recreation, meals, hygiene, searches, room checks, and other daily scheduled activities;

· Implement the outlined behavior management program;

· Assess emergency situations and respond to crisis;

· Facilitate cognitive behavioral group sessions and activities;

· Work independently and make decisions based on established policy and procedures

· Serve as a role model for youth

*Ability to perform physical restraints when necessary using the "Handle with Care" techniques.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications: A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or an associate’s degree and two (2) years experience working with youth; or a high school diploma and four (4) years experience working with youth. Experience working with juveniles in a residential facility preferred.

This position requires a background investigation to include criminal history, child protective services, sex offender registry records checks, and physical exam with drug test. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia driver's license in accordance with Virginia DMV driver's license eligibility requirements.


SCHEDULE:

This position works rotating shifts on days, evenings, weekends and holidays. The 8-hour shift rotations are as follows: Two days shifts (7 a.m. -3 p.m.) then two evening shifts (2 p.m. -10 p.m.) and two days off. This schedule continues on an ongoing rotating basis.


ENTRY SALARY:

$47,399/year, plus overtime when available, based on education and experience. This position also has a $2/hr weekend differential for weekend and evening hours worked.

ON-CALL TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST


The Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center is currently accepting applications for the position of ON-CALL transportation specialist/driver. This position involves transporting youth to court hearings and medical appointments. The driver is responsible for the secure and safe transport of youth to and from these appointments. Shift work is primarily day shift but may include an occasional evening, weekend, or holiday. Experience working with at-risk youth preferred. Requires maintaining a valid Virginia Driver’s License, passing a background check, drug screen, and physical. Hourly rate $21.42.
