TRANSPORTATION COUNSELOR POSITION

The Merrimac Center, a juvenile detention facility in Williamsburg, is currently accepting applications for the position of part-time transportation counselor/driver. Position involves transporting youth to court hearings and medical appointments. Driver is responsible for the secure and safe transport of youth to and from these meetings. Shift work is primarily day shift but may include an occasional evening, weekend, or holiday. Experience working with at risk youth preferred. Requires maintaining a valid Virginia Driverís License, passing a background check, drug screen, and post-offer physical. Hourly rate $15.00. DIRECT CARE MALE STAFF

The Merrimac Center is seeking experienced direct care male staff to perform professional level work in a therapeutic detention program. Work includes supervision and direct care of youth, crisis intervention, individualized goal planning, and facilitation of group sessions in a cognitive behavioral training environment. Counselorís duties additionally include supervising detained youth when waking and going to bed, during showers and other hygiene routines, conducting strip searches, and conducting room searches. Counselors are assigned to duty in a manner that ensures that only same sex counselors perform these duties. 

This position works shifts on evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays. Bachelorís degree in a related field preferred or an Associateís Degree in a related field and three years of experience working with teens required. Requires a background investigation to include criminal history, sex offender registry records check, child protective services check, and physical exam with drug test.
